Roosters & Chicks!

What's Blooming Today?
I finally finished my All Cooped Up quilt. All Cooped Up is designed by McKenna Ryan of Pine Needles. This quilt was really fun to make. I used invisible thread to Machine appliqué and I used beads and embroidery for the eyes. It is the first time I used the pattern in the background fabric as my quilting template. I also used a variety of colors of WonderFil's Konfetti and Tutti threads. I love these threads!
McKenna Ryan shows the patterns as individual quilt blocks and a quilt with only 4 of the 7 Roosters/chickens. I wanted a quilt with all 9 of the roosters/chicks so I had to figure out a way to put them all together. I tried McKenna Ryan's idea with the chicken coops but I just couldn't get them to work. I finally settled on cutting 2 1/2" wide strips of various lengths of the leftover scraps and created a border.
Next came the quilting the borders. After some thought, the idea of chicken foot prints would be perfect. I googled images of chicken foot prints on the internet. I hadn't realized that chicken feet are a delicacy and that there are "100 ways to cook chicken feet"! I didn't have any luck finding a pattern on the internet so I took a pencil and paper and worked it out.
I love the way the quilt turned out.
And, Let Your Imagination Bloom!
